Romania’s changing fast! Since 1990, Western influence has flooded in - both for good and for bad, and certainly enough to cause a lot of confusion.
But it’s exciting too. For the last several years, we have held conferences with our Romanian partners, to discuss some of the issues thrown up. The conferences run for about 4 days, and are designed for Romanian young people from all religious backgrounds and none. They are held in the Radauti area, but have attracted delegates from all over Romania. Numbers have varied according the type of accomodation we have been able to use - we have had 65, but more recently have averaged 20 (but certainly not due to a drop in demand!)
What do we do? The conferences involve talks, lots of interaction, discussions, role plays, and of course free time too. As well as the material itself, we see it as a major step to get such a variety of young people together in one place at all, and especially to get them discussing some pretty meaty topics.
What do we talk about? We have covered some interesting themes over the years. Click downloads for links to some samples of conference material (in English! NB Romanian downloads are available from the Hannah site). You will need Acrobat Reader, which you probably already have; if not, click the big red A for a free download from the Adobe site.
Our aim is to make faith relevant to every aspect of a changing society. I try to keep in touch with our students over the year, and we supplement the main conference program with mini-conferences and discussion bulletins -as well as maintaining links via the Computer & Internet Club at the Dorca Centre.
